Some of the last words from God to the Hebrew people in the Old Testament were, “Watch for the arrival of a prophet like Elijah.  Then you will know your Savior has come.” After 400 long years of silence, a preacher burst on the scene in Palestine that was clearly the spittin image of Elijah – the prophet John the Baptist.  He was a voice crying in the wilderness, preparing people to receive their Messiah.  Jesus created  an even bigger sensation than John as His ministry began. And his message was both surprising and simple.  He told people that life with God doesn’t come down to what you do, as much as who you follow. He looked people in the eye and said simply, “You want eternal life?  Then follow me.”
